Gain confidence! Gain community!

Salsa and Bachata are Latin social dances. People from all walks of life come to “socials” to dance and talk and enjoy each other’s company. Between every song people change partners and dance with someone else, or enjoy conversations, or simply watch and enjoy the music. Sound in Motion is blessed to be home to a progressive program in both Salsa and Bachata.

New students begin in a level 1 class where they learn the basics of timing, rhythm, connection to their partner and basic body movement to develop the coordination needed for upper levels. Students have the opportunity to move to higher level classes once they have developed a strong technical foundation.

Get started with an intro to Latin dance class: a preview that gives new students the chance to learn the basic step and basic turn of both Salsa and Bachata, the differences between the two dances, and fundamental movements needed for more advanced skills. The program also includes one week of our regular group classes. The cost is $29. Plus take advantage of special enrollment offers for those ready to start ongoing classes.

Space in class is limited and pre-registration is required. Please fill out the form below to call us to complete your registration.

What to expect and how to get ready

We are so excited that you are ready to try Salsa and Bachata! In the intro class you’ll learn how to step, the basic and even how to spin on your own. Then you will partner up. Typically leaders are men and followers are women. You will try the movements with one partner for a bit and then you’ll rotate partners. Everyone dances with everyone. You’ll also learn the fundamentals of connection that you’ll need for more advanced movements.

Before Class...

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes with a thin sole that won’t stick to a wood floor. Thick soled hiking boots, or shoes with very grippy rubber aren’t good for spinning.

If you are coming from work or other physical activity we do recommend that you take a few moments to freshen up as you will be in close contact with partners.

Be on time! Do yourself a favor and arrive a few minutes early. We begin class with our basic step that is needed for everything we do in class. Student who arrive more than 10 minutes late will be asked to reschedule thier class.

What's next? Are there more classes available?

Yes! Sound in Motion is proud to have Boise’s largest progressive Salsa and Bachata program for ongoing students.

New students begin in the Fundamentals program covering levels 1 and 2. Level 1 builds basic skills and technique required for advancement to level 2. Classes meet twice a week. Most new students can expect to move to level 2 in 3-5 months depending on their attendance, work in class or if they are taking privates as well.

With practice and hard work students advance to levels 3 and 4 for even more challenging moves and styling.

Do you offer drop-in classes

Many latin dance studios offer drop-in style classes, but at Sound in Motion, we don’t believe drop-ins best serve our students. Building strength and developing appropriate technique to learn to dance successfully requires regular practice. We require all ongoing students to train at least twice a week. We even offer open studio time free to current students to do additional practice on their own schedule.

Drop-in students tend to slow down the progress of the existing class and require the instructor and other students to back track while the drop-in student is “catching up”. Because we ask for a little more commitment from our students, our students progress more quickly and build good technique faster and are some of the most sought after dancers to dance with in Boise.
