New Student Information

Welcome to Sound In Motion in Boise!

This all the information a new student could ever need to get started partner dancing, all in one convenient location! All the dance classes listed below are perfect for people brand new to the world of dance, both left feet and all.

If it’s been a while since you’ve been a regular on the dance floor, you also might want to consider our Level 1 courses as a refresher, because we do teach a little differently than other studios. We pride ourselves in using the Sound In Motion Method, a way of teaching the technical and anatomical body awareness details of dance in bite size pieces, allowing people to improve in the fastest and simplest way possible. This revolutionary method was coined by Heather D’Angel, studio owner.

Bachata 1

This is the total beginner’s class for Bachata! This fun & sexy dance is easy to learn & we will have you out on the dance floor in no time at all! This dance is thought of as a slower more romantic dance, with a lot of fun hip action for the ladies! They almost always play it at Salsa clubs, so it’s good to know some basics! In this class we will go over your fundamental movements & turns, & show you how to have a good time & add a little flavor!

There are three 4 week segments in each series, & each one covers different material.  We take new students every 4 weeks.  You may join the class the first or second week of each 4 week segment, but after that we ask that you wait until the next segment starts.

Do I need to bring a partner?

Absolutely not! We rotate partners so that everyone gets a chance to dance with everyone!

Do I have to rotate partners?

Definitely not! It is not required to rotate in group classes, but is highly recommended. It gives you the opportunity to practice leading and following, instead of just doing the move. If you find yourself getting frustrated in a group class try rotating. You might just be surprised!

What should I wear?

Anything you are comfortable in. Everything from business casual to jeans and a t-shirt, and yes, even yoga pants.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

Dance shoes are always the best options but, if you are not quite sure if you have been officially converted into a dance addict yet, anything that will let you spin on a wood floor will work – even socks! (Super grippy tennis shoes are bad!)

Where can I get dance shoes?

You can order shoes from us! We are distributors for Supadance and Very Fine shoes.

What if I miss a class?

There are no refunds for classes missed and they do not carry over to the next session. We review the material from the previous classes each week, and our classes are progressive so you will still get all of the course material.
